Privacy and cookies

This page explains in plain language which data we use, why we use it, and how you control statistics on the site.

In brief

Essential technologies make login, security, favorites and downloads work. We record the material ID and time in our database when a download begins. Google Analytics and our persistent anonymous download ID are optional statistics and are only enabled when you select “Allow statistics”. If you reject or ignore the banner, the Google tag is not loaded, no data is sent to Google, and guest downloads are not linked to a persistent ID. To limit automated bulk use, we may use a hashed IP address for a short download limit when neither a login nor consent ID is available.

Basic download records

When you start a download, we store the material ID and time in our database. This helps us operate and improve the material library. If you are logged in, the download is linked to your account so it can appear in your download history. If you are a guest and rejected statistics, the download is stored without a user ID or persistent guest ID. We may then store a hashed version of the connection's IP address and the browser user agent to enforce a fair-use limit against automated scraping. The raw IP address is not stored in the download table, and the record is not sent to Google.

Who is the data controller?

Klar og Klog is the data controller for processing on klarogklog.dk.

Google Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand visits, page views and downloads and to improve the site and teaching materials. The legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR together with consent under Danish cookie rules.

  • Cookie and client IDs that distinguish browsers.
  • Time, pages visited, page titles and download events.
  • Referring page and browser, device and screen information.
  • IP address, which Google uses to infer an approximate geographic area.

We do not send names, email addresses, student IDs or other directly identifying data to Analytics. URL parameters are removed from the page and referral addresses sent by the tag. Google Signals, ad personalization and Google's advertising consent types are disabled in the tag configuration.

Google as provider and processing in the United States

Google Ireland Limited provides Google Analytics. Google LLC and other Google companies may also process data, including in the United States. Transfers may rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and, where relevant, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. In some situations, Google may process data for its own purposes as described in Google's terms and privacy information.

Cookies, localStorage and lifetime

TechnologyProviderPurposeLifetime
kk_cookie_consentKlar og KlogStores the choice, time and consent version12 months
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes browsers for visit statistics12 months
_ga_G50JQTZC3XGoogle AnalyticsMaintains session status12 months

Analytics cookies expire 12 months after the first visit and are not renewed on each visit. User and event data in Analytics should be configured for two months of retention in the Analytics account.

If a guest without a login accepts statistics, a random ID is also stored in localStorage under the key klarogklog_anonymous_user_id. It is used for basic download statistics and a guest limit of 50 downloads over seven days. If you reject statistics, no persistent guest ID is used, but downloads without login may instead be limited to 20 per day based on a hashed IP address.

How to change or withdraw your choice

Open “Cookie settings” using the button that is always visible at the bottom of the page or the link in the footer. When you turn off statistics, subsequent Analytics events stop, Analytics cookies are deleted, and the page reloads without loading the Google tag. You can continue using the site and downloading materials.

Children and young people

Klar og Klog is primarily intended for teachers and other adults, but students may also encounter the materials. If you are under 15, a parent or legal guardian must approve statistics on your behalf. You can always use the site without allowing statistics. We do not use Analytics for advertising, profiling or demographic reports.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal data processed about you
  • correct or delete inaccurate or unnecessary data
  • restrict processing and receive data portability where the rules provide this right
  • withdraw your consent for future processing
  • complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency

Contact us at [email protected]. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency.
